When did GOD become controversial in the USA?

By OneGoodWoman
Nov 2011

There was a recent time, when I would have said, Americans do not understand "persecution"......we have so very little evidence and experience with it. We are, after all, the modern society, welcoming all...

How very ignorant, I was.

I recently paid $25, for a t-shirt, with the Pledge of Allegience printed on the back.

At work, I have always chosen to be professionally dressed..........but on this Friday, I wore the t-shirt with the plege...

I was called into the " administrators" office.  The charge against me- My shirt was "controversial" because it said "Under God".

WAKE UP America!

April California Christian Killings

Seven Confirmed Dead at Christian University in California
Stacy L. Harp

It is with tremendous sadness that I share the breaking news that took place in California earlier today.

I am not categorizing this as Christian persecution in the way that we normally look at Christian persecution on this blog, but I feel this story deserves some attention and prayer because it took place at a Christian University which also has a medical school, a school of theology and offers studies in music and nursing.  One can assume that the most of the people who were killed were Christians, or at least, friendly towards Christianity.  No motive has been disclosed as to why the gunman shot and killed the students at this school.

Fox News is reporting the following:

Authorities earlier described the gunman as a heavyset Korean man in his 40s wearing khaki clothing. "I can confirm that we do have one person who has been detained that we believe is possibly responsible for this shooting," Watson said.

KTVU-TV reported that the shooter was a student and opened fire in a classroom.

KTVU-TV is also reporting on the shooting:

Oakland police have confirmed that seven victims have died and three were wounded in the shooting spree. Several victims were transported to Highland Hospital for treatment while the bodies of several of the dead covered by tarps were lined up on the grass in front of the school.

Please keep the families of the deceased in your prayers, as well as those who are now recovering from gun shot wounds.  Pray for all involved in this tragic situation, and especially pray for the gunman that they would be brought to justice.

Modern Day Christian Persecution

Modern Day Christian Persecution By Dave Sibole

Early Persecution

It is my perception that the majority of Christians in America are not aware of how prevalent Christian persecution is today. We read about it in scripture. In the Old Testament even though they were Christians there were godly men persecuted for their faith in the one true God. I am reminded of the prophet Daniel, thrown into a den of lions and the three young Hebrew men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul described some of the difficulties he endured some of which were for his faith and the preaching of the gospel.

2 Corinthians 11: 23-27 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Tradition tells us that all of the apostles except John were Martyred. In school we were told of the Romans of the first century Christians how they were made sport of by gladiators and fed to the lions in public arenas.

It Continues Today

In 2008, the AP reported in one month alone, after the liberation of the Iraqi people by the U.S. led coalition, that there were over 13,000 Christians that fled their home because of threats and reported murders. The persecution of the Coptic Christians in Egypt has been an ongoing happening for some time but has increased since the overthrow of the Hosni Mubarak government. In the Catholic Online in an article just dated May 14, 2011 reports an attack on a church in which 12 were killed and 200 injured. In the Sudan there is a decade old ongoing war on Christians.

The above mentioned occurances are by Muslim extremists but persecution is not limited to them. In India some Hindu also practice attacks and persecution of Christians. One of the videos below is of such an incident. It is not just a war of religions. In China the government frequently arrests and imprison Christians.

It Is Coming Here

Under the guise of tolerance and political correctness, fuel by a constant threat of law suits by the ACLU, and a push to make us a county that has not a freedom of religion but a freedom from religion we are inching closer to outright persecution here in America. I know some will say I'm making a big leap by that statement but look at the history of some other countries around the world, perhaps most recently Lebanon. It happened in one generation there and given how far we have slipped in that direction here in my generation. I don't think I'm making a big leap at all.

Catholic Church on Govnerment and Social Justice

Taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

"Respect for the human person entails respect for the rights that flow from his dignity as a creature. These rights are prior to society and must be recognized by it. They are the basis of the moral legitimacy of every authority: by flouting them, or refusing to recognize them in its positive legislation, a society undermines its own moral legitimacy. If it does not respect them, authority can rely only on force or violence to obtain obedience from its subjects. It is the Church's role to remind men of good will of these rights and to distinguish them from unwarranted or false claims"

Is Vanderbilt University waging a war on religion?

Catholic student group to leave Vanderbilt

Is Vanderbilt University waging a war on religion?

Many of the university’s religious student groups think so. They have been told by the administration that they cannot have faith or belief-based requirements for leadership. That means an atheist could run for leadership of a Christian group, a Jew for leadership of a Muslim group, a Pagan for leadership of a Catholic group, and on and on.
It’s all written into Vanderbilt’s nondiscrimination or “all-comers” policy.

All student groups must register next month. As part of the registration, they must sign a statement of affirmation that they will abide by the nondiscrimination policy.

Vandy Catholic -- a student group with some 500 members -- has decided it cannot agree to the policy and will be leaving campus in the fall. PJ Jedlovec, the president of Vandy Catholic, says it was a difficult decision, one made after much prayer and discussion.

“We are first and foremost a Catholic organization," says Jedlovec. “We do, in fact, have qualifications – faith-based qualifications for leadership. We require that our leaders be practicing Catholics. And the university’s nondiscrimination policy -- they have made it clear that there is no room in it for an organization that has these faith-based qualifications.”

Lamb of God

I've never read the "Mary Had a Little Lamb" poem written this way before...

Mary had a little Lamb
his fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
the Lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school each day,
twasn't even in the rule.
He made the children laugh and play
to have such a Lamb at school.
And then the rules all changed one day
illegal it became
to bring the Lamb of God to school,
or even speak his name.
Every day got worse and worse
and days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh
we heard gun shots and tears.
What must we do to stop the crime
that's in our schools today?
Let's let the Lamb come back to school
and teach our kids to pray!
